Many databases will provide access to the complete article (full-text). However, some only provide article citations or abstracts.

You need a citation to be able to find a full text of your article in databases, the Library catalogue (Omni) or to order it via interlibrary loan (ILL). You also need the citation of the article if you plan to use it in your research paper.

Usually an article citation consists of:

  • name of the journal the article is published in
  • title of the article
  • author’s full name
  • volume and issue number
  • year of publication
  • page numbers
